What is Type 1 Diabetes

An autoimmune response causes the body to destroy cells in the pancreas responsible for the production of insulin. This permanently prevents the body from being able to produce insulin and regulate its blood sugars. If left un-treated this results in diabetic ketoacidosis, a diabetic coma and ultimately death.¹
